Biology minor

You can explore the fundamentals of biological sciences by adding a biology minor to degree programs ranging from chemistry to liberal studies. Minor students complete a core of required courses and can select electives from the areas of cellular and molecular biology, ecology, physiology and evolution. The biology minor can be a useful addition for chemistry, mathematics and physics majors interested in biological careers in medicine, bioinformatics, biostatistics, biochemistry and applied mathematics.

Note: The biology minor is not available for biochemistry and biophysics, biochemistry and molecular biology, biohealth sciences, biology, botany, microbiology and zoology majors.

Sample courses

  • Principles of Biology
  • Genetics
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology

Marine biology minor

The marine biology minor allows students from diverse majors to integrate an introductory background in marine biology into their major field of study. The minor introduces a variety of marine organisms and habitats. Students in the minor are also required to participate in a summer term at Hatfield Marine Science Center (HSMC). Students interested in more advanced training in marine biology are encouraged to look at the biology major and the comprehensive marine biology and ecology option.

Sample courses

  • Introduction to Marine Biology
  • Marine Ecology
  • Marine and Estuarine Invertebrate Zoology
