This petition is for current OSU students only. Unless you are a non-degree student, please review the OSU articulation tables and consult with your major advisor before submitting a petition.
Prerequisites and course requirements are not waived. The Department of Integrative Biology reviews courses to determine if they are substantial equivalents to OSU biology (BI) and zoology (Z) courses and/or if they meet prerequisites for OSU BI or Z courses. Equivalencies will be determined by course content, level of instruction (lower division and upper division), prerequisites for the course, and the intent of the requirement being considered among other criteria. Prerequisites or course requirements are not met based on other institutions criteria or experiences students have engaged in. Approval is at the discretion of the Department of Integrative Biology.
Petition for course(s) to apply to the BI 22X series or online BI 20X series (LD2 designation)
Series of courses approved as LD2 in the OSU articulation tables are already approved as equivalent to the BI 221, 222 and 223 or BI 204, 205, 206 series if all courses in the series listed as LD2 in the articulation tables are completed with a C- or better. Students with these series should talk to their major advisor about them. If petitioning a series that are not listed or is listed as BI LDT (instead of BI LD2), please petition all courses that apply to the content in the OSU BI 221, 222 and 223 or online BI 204, 205 and 206 series - a year-long series for science majors with a laboratory each term that covers all listed topics. Anatomy and physiology, non-majors' biology and more applied courses like biology for health professionals by themselves are not equivalent to the BI 221, 222 and 223 or online BI 204, 205 and 206 series but may be included as part of a petition with other appropriate coursework.
Petition for course(s) to count for a biology and zoology major requirement or a BI or Z course to count for another major
Please submit a separate petition for each requirement (e.g. Organismal Biology in the biology major or BI 311 Genetics in the zoology major) with any relevant transfer coursework listed.
Petition for course(s) to count as a Baccalaureate Core course for a non-science major
Anatomy and physiology and more applied courses like biology for health professionals are not considered Baccalaureate Core courses and are not listed in the OSU Baccalaureate Core for that reason. Also, courses counting for the biological or physical sciences area of the Baccalaureate Core must include a laboratory to be considered. Please submit a single petition for relevant courses for counting the Baccalaureate Core.
