  1. Display ability to summarize major central issues and current research problems in their field.
  2. Display ability to explain and identify areas of uncertainty in their fields.
  3. Complete and defend either:
    (1) An original manuscript, based on either a review and synthesis of the primary literature or original research; or
    (2) Mastery of appropriate advanced coursework in the field.
